Lifestyle Chatter: A Blissfully Relaxed Christmas

Every year Pete and I look forward to Christmas for one reason and one reason alone – not having to work. Yes it’s lovely to catch up with family, exchange presents and eat and drink too much. But for us, it’s time off that far surpasses any of those activities in terms of value. A chance to recharge batteries, make plans for the future and spend quality time together without the shadow of a new working day hanging over us.

This year in particular has felt so very relaxed. It’s helped that I’ve had some extra days of holiday to use up by December 31st and so a combination of the way Christmas has fallen plus those extra days means there’s just been one day of work between December 16th and January 4th and I’ve loved every minute of having time to me, time to each other.

We didn’t get a tree this year but instead stocked up on festive decorations from Columbia Road flower market and they’ve added a beautiful Christmassy touch to our home, our second Christmas here. relaxedchristmasmistletoe

There have been films in front of the fire (even though it’s not really been cold enough to justify it!) and baking gluten free Christmas cakes.

We’ve had Christmas Eve lunch in London and giggled over glasses of wine curled up round our neighbours dining room table in the evening. A long woodland walk on Christmas Day followed by Champagne as we settled into our traditional rhythm of spending it just the two of us and poochie.

We headed off to the Northamptonshire countryside on Boxing Day to see my Mum and Stepdad, as well as my beautiful baby niece Florence who celebrated her first Christmas at just 3 months old. relaxedchristmasmumshouse

On the 27th we left my Mum and drove back down towards London, stopping at my in-laws in Hertfordshire and arriving home in the early hours of Monday morning. Since then we’ve just been making the most of the days left: pottering about the house; venturing into Oxford Street for breakfast and sale shopping; resuming running with the dog in tow; planning health and fitness for us both in 2016.relaxedchristmaspresents

Happy New Year!!! You’ve had me reminiscing 🙂 Paul and I were together for so many years before our boys were born and we were the same as you, it was just lovely to have some time off together without the stresses of work. We used to amble around Zurich and pop in to the local Apple shop to choose our Christmas presents (another pre-kids joy … having more money) and head to the most amazing Thai restaurant for lunch. I miss it, you know. It was so, so nice. Hope you’ve had a fantastic start to the year xx

Oh Lins it sounds like a truly lovely time. spending quality time with yourself and each other doesn’t seem all that possible during the rest of the year does it! We had a tree but I’ve never had decorations elsewhere round the house so I think this year that’s what I’ll treat myself to 🙂 Oh and sod whether it’s cold enough or not; never an excuse needed to put the fire on! Happy 2016 X
