A Stylish New Look For Our Hallway With Pooky.com

When I open the door to our home, it’s not unusual to be greeted with the sight of muddy shoes, discarded post, dog leads and bags. It depresses me but at the same time I know we’re a house in flux and it won’t last forever. For me, the hallway is such an important and often overlooked space – this is the first part of your home to greet you from a long day at work, to welcome you into a safe place after a night out. It’s the first place anyone who comes to your home sees from guests to post delivery and has such potential but so often falls short.

My Mum was always great at creating a show-stopping hallway. Our houses growing up (and there were many of them) were always fairly unassuming and my teen years were spent in bungalow in Newbury but my goodness it had some hallway space. We had floor to ceiling bookcases on either side of the front door and a huge writing desk in one corner (the hallway was L-shaped). I left home at 18 to go to University and then moved straight to London afterwards and for my Mum there have been a few houses since then, but she has always focused on creating a lovely, warm welcoming entrance.

Our own hallway is taking shape and I recently received a beautiful linen lampshade from Pooky.com which I thought would look perfect on our new console table. In fact, as it so happens, the lamp on the table is the only table lamp we have in the entire house because well, we don’t really have any tables or surfaces or shelves to put lamps at the moment. We will though eventually. Based in London, Pooky “is all about beautiful, decorative lighting.  Lights that look as though they cost a fortune, but don’t.” Judging from what I’ve seen, I have to wholeheartedly concur.

Taking into consideration the current style and colours in our hall, I chose the empire printed linen ikat shade in orange zig-zag which is available in 2 sizes, a 25cm and a 30cm. The 25cm costs GBP45 and the 30cm costs GBP55 and they really are so beautiful. The lampshades are handmade from soft natural linen with a warm cream fabric lining and you can really feel and see up close the luxury style and finishing at a snip of what such shades can cost.

I’d now like to source the perfect base for the shade and think it would work well with one of the transparent glass ones or something slightly bigger than the one it’s currently paired with. They would make great bedside lamps once we’ve reconfigured our master bedroom (currently the bed is under the eaves so there is barely any room for bedside tables, let alone lamps on them!) or in our guest bedroom. We also want to build alcove shelving either side of the fireplace in the living room and this is such a versatile lampshade that it would work in any room but would look particularly good with our current grey colour scheme in the living room. There’s just nowhere to put it at the moment *sob*. And on that note, we now need to have a plug socket fitted on the wall under the console table because as you can see from the pictures, there are none. Endless, endless things to deal with. We did say we wanted a project house…!

Thank you so much to Pooky.com for gifting one of their lampshades in return for a review. All words, opinions and images are my own unless otherwise stated.

I love that lamp it is so pretty, I ma so with you here, our hallway used to be loaded with coats and wellies then one day I just flipped, I organised a cupboard to hide it all and now it is considered illegal to hang a coat on the hooks in the hall they are for guests only ha ha, but it always looks neat and stylish now. Chris and the boys think I am mad, but my hall is tidy x

Love the close up shots of the fabric, looks lovely. I agree it would look great on a larger glass base. Sounds like you got your great interior design skills from your mum! I like the sound of her hallways x

It’s great having a console table in the hallway. SO practical. I agree that a different lamp base would work, perhaps even a chrome/brass round or pearshaped type base or glass as you say. #HOMEETC

I’d blooming LOVE a hallway!!!!! Our cottage has a tiny vestibule (maybe 2ft square) that leads off the front door. You can fit an umbrella in it, but nothing more than that!! 😉 Would LOVE a show-stopping hallway!!! Maybe in our next house! Thanks so much for linking up to #HomeEtc — Caro xx

Ah but you have a cottage!!! I’m very envious of that alone, although there aren’t too many cottages to be found in London these days 🙂 X

That’s a gorgeous lamp LIns – and love how it’s classic pattern will mean it can move from room to room as it needs to. #homeetc

Thank you lovely, I can’t wait to actually have more places to put things like lamps. I feel a bit like we live in a cave sometimes! X

I’d love to have a console table in my hallway but we don’t have much space. I do love that lamp, especially the base, it’s really nice and unusual

Thank you lovely, it is a nice advantage to have space in the hallway but if Pete had his way it would literally be nothing other than dumping! X
