A Journey To The Dark Side With KitchenAid

KitchenAid Black Stainless Steel Kitchen

If you were to ask my friends, family or workmates what I’m associated with, they’d say colour. Without a doubt. Glorious, uncoordinated colour. I hate wearing black and only do so if it’s required to be smart which is very rare. Anything goes as far as I’m concerned, the brighter the better and it makes me smile to be a little beacon of rainbow in amongst the corporate uniforms of London during rush hour.

With interiors though, that couldn’t be further from the truth. Most of you will know how much I love grey and it features often in our home from the colour of the sofas to our front door – even the new car is grey! I find a calmer palette more appealing at home and far from being dull or depressing think that a simple colour scheme can be very elegant and chic. Of course accessories always help to brighten things up but well, I’m having a bit of a moment with the darkness.

KitchenAid recently invited me to visit their stunning ‘Experience Store‘ which is on Wigmore Street, just behind Oxford Street. I love any opportunity to visit these stores especially when they wouldn’t be on my radar normally since we’re not on the market for any kitchen appliances at the moment, we can barely fit everything in as it is! The purpose of the visit was to view the UK’s first full kitchen range in pure brushed black stainless steel and oh my, what a treat.

The Experience Store itself is such a stunning space and even more so decked out entirely in black. Here’s the brand explaining why they’ve gone to the dark side:

‘Designed to stand out, the KitchenAid Black Stainless Steel range offers kitchen lovers a bold aesthetic, underpinned by the brand’s unwavering dedication to professional performance. A new, distinctive collection for the passionate cook with an eye for detail. For milenia the colour black has been a symbol of style and mystery. From the use of black kohl to Ancient Egyptian nobility, to the introduction of the ‘little black dress’ by Coco Chanel in more recent history, black has been used as a sign of simple quality, framing and focusing the eye to draw attention’.

Enjoying a delicious breakfast of black-themed food, we were talked through the collection including the Twelix Artisan Over (RRP £2,300) and the Bella French Door Fridge-Freezer (RRP £5,300) which I was so smitten with. I’ve been looking at other fridges since then but nothing compares. When the time comes to build our new kitchen, I will definitely be after a dreamy fridge.

We also heard from Grant of luxury interior design blog Interior Style Hunter who explained why black works so well from an interiors perspective and how it can add so much to a space.

Most impressive about the collection is that each product is finished with anti-fingerprint technology, they’ve literally thought of everything. There’s nothing worse than a stylish, sleek kitchen with grubby fingermarks left behind but I put the theory to the test and can confirm not a smudge remained.

Of course KitchenAid are most famous for their iconic stand mixers and the new range includes the first monochromatic version, The Artisan Black Tie Stand Mixer. This will retail for £849 and is made of the most premium quality materials, including die-cast zinc, satin and black chrome and only 200 will be available in the UK for purchase making it an exclusive limited edition piece.

Well, I now have a wish-list longer than my arm. Good quality and high end is very important to me in our home makeover and whilst that doesn’t make much of what we do cheap, it’s worth the long-term investment. I’ll definitely be knocking on KitchenAid’s door when it comes to furnishing our future extension.

Thank you so much to KitchenAid for inviting me to the launch event. All words, opinions and images are my own unless otherwise stated.

I love KitchenAid. Although these days it is Aspen who uses it the most. I love the black it looks awesome. We chose the white because it was so versatile with any kitchen colour scheme as black will be too. We have the pasta maker too and it is so good! The ice-cream maker is fabulous too.

This will sound really silly but I had no idea they did bigger appliances, if truth be told I only really knew of the mixer! That fridge is lush though, my ‘wishlist’ fridge in the past would have always been a Fisher & Paykel one but KitchenAid is now up there!

You had me at anti-fingerprint technology. I want that ALL OVER my home. With three grubby boys around the place it would make life a lot easier.
We have a Kitchen Aid mixer in red. Choosing a colour was really hard. They have a great range. #homeetc

Wow. I’m a colour girl through and through too (you might have noticed) but I’d be happy with any kitchenaid I think. I can see how black works in interiors (we even have some in our bedroom) but some of that black food looks a little odd. Did it have the same effect as too much red wine (and I don’t mean the falling over bit?) 😉 Thanks for hosting #homeetc
