Over the weekend I’ve been rambling on Instagram Stories about how much I’ve missed blogging having been AWOL for a while. A week where autumn really kicked in, earlier in October, where I just had to go to ground because it’s such a tough time of year for me, followed by a work trip to Dublin, followed by a final push in closing down my business means that there has been so much focus on other areas. It’s so lovely to be back with all the other distractions out of the way and although it’s been a fairly quiet week, there have been plenty of little adventures to make me smile.
My First Pumpkin!
For the longest time in London, I was renting a flat where I didn’t want to open the door or not back in time from work to be there for trick or treaters. The home we bought is on a lovely peaceful 1930’s estate with a very active residents association including a Facebook group. When another resident asked if any houses would be participating in Halloween this year, I decided to pop out and get a pumpkin and some sweets as I knew I’d be home. I’ve never cooked or carved pumpkin before and feel quite pleased with how it turned out. If no-one comes, I’ll be lugging a huge box of sweets to work on Tuesday!
The White Company kindly sent me one of their ‘winter’ candles for our home and offered a second up as a competition prize. This is the most amazing home fragrance and it turns out there are lots of fans. I’m definitely going to be stocking up for winter.
Lunch With My Mum
On Tuesday, my Mum and Aunt popped down to London for the day and I was able to take them both to lunch. We headed down Bermondsey Street to The Garrison which is somewhere I’ve walked past so many times and never been into. Delicious food, vintage-inspired interiors and these fabulous green tiles. Do pay it a visit if you’re in the area.
A Mini Dining Room Fireplace Makeover
We rarely use the dining room since Boo & Maddie live in there and as a result it had suffered a bit from neglect. We bought a new log basket whilst in Hastings a couple of weekends ago and a few new bits and bobs for the mantelpiece have really spruced it up no end. I’m ignoring the dark evenings and will still post photos even though it’s not daylight. Sacrilege! I need some fairy lights and to give the inside of the fireplace a lick of white paint and it will complete the transformation.
Latest Home Improvements
On Saturday the wonderful Woodson & Son came to install a log store on our patio. We’re so delighted with how it looks and all being well our log delivery will arrive imminently. Look out for the full post on Wednesday but for now here is a before and after.
On Tuesday as I was getting ready for work, the sky was turning the most beautiful colour. It will be dark now for the next few months before I leave the house so enjoyed this last splash of colour until next year.
Ok, so I know these are so 2012, but I picked up a lightbox from Berrys & Grey whilst we were in Cornwall and I love it. Such a cute little home accessory especially for this time of year.
Foggy Dog Walks
We had the most atmospheric dog walk on Sunday, heading off to Greenwich in thick fog. We’ve had some brilliant sunshine there on our last view visits but today was very different and perfect for the time of year. We lost our bearings a couple of times but still enjoyed meandering round and ended up at the hot chocolate shop (aka Costa) so I could try their new toffee apple hot chocolate. Delicious.
We have a radiator off one of the walls at the moment so no heating until it goes back on. I made a hot water bottle, popped it on the sofa and when I came back these two had ganged up on me to commandeer it. They are adorable.
Hope you’ve had a lovely week X
