It’s been a little while since I wrote a weekly catch-up post – in part because some weeks weren’t that exciting and in others because there was just too much going on to focus on it. But I’ve realised how much I miss them for so many reasons. I love looking back on what we got up to, I don’t know about you but it feels impossible sometimes to remember what took place yesterday let alone last month. It also acts as a little bit of mindfulness which is really why I started in the first place. To appreciate small things like sunshine on the walk to the station in the mornings, or a piece of cake. Life can’t always be super exciting but when it gets so busy it’s even more important to stop and look around.
So here’s what’s been on the radar lately!
The New Car
After probably the best part of a couple of years of talking about it, spending lots of money on Pete’s aged Passat and spending lots of weekends earlier this year traipsing round car showrooms, we finally collected our new car last week. It’s the Audi Q3 and even though I’m not a car person by any means, really is rather lovely. It’s taking a bit of getting use to since it’s automatic rather than manual but I now need to sort myself out with a few refresher lessons so that I can finally get driving again after all these years. Watch out south London, I’m coming!
Date Night Saint Etienne
Friday nights feel like they’ve become really busy lately – last week I went drinking with my workmates, the week before I was in Florida on business and the week before that more workmate drinks. So it was lovely to spend some quality time with Mr D. We headed for dinner on the South Bank before seeing Saint Etienne at the Royal Festival Hall. I often joke that our music tastes are quite different and that he listens to ‘middle-aged man music’. It really is a joke but looking around at the concert on Friday, we literally were surrounded by middle-aged men, doing middle-aged Dad dancing. Or pretending to be Bez. Either way it was pretty hilarious.
It’s so strange to think that this time last year Boo had only just been born and we didn’t even know he existed. He brings both of us so much happiness and it’s as though Boo and Maddie were always meant to be a little rascally duo. They make me laugh so much every day and we’re so lucky to have them because they’re just amazing.
Catching Up With Old Friends
One of my oldest friends found himself up in London for work earlier in the week so we had a lovely evening catching up at my work local, the Horniman. Dan and I met at Journalism school 15 years ago when I first moved to London and have been friends ever since but he moved to Bristol many years ago so we don’t get to catch up that often. Putting the world to rights over a few gins was the perfect way to spend a mid-week evening.
I also went back to Pilates this week for the first time in a month and it was so needed, too much boozing and not enough exercise is taking its toll on my fitness. Finally I’m three episodes in to ‘The Keepers’ on Netflix, which is ah-mazing. It’s a 7 episode docuseries about the murder of a nun in 1960’s America and regular people’s determination to uncover the truth. It’s very harrowing, at times I’ve felt like smashing my iPad in horror but also completely gripping. Big thumbs up from me.
