Monday Catch Up #13

Well I have to say on the day job front I was mighty glad to see the back of last week, it’s inevitable that when you’ve been in an organisation for a long time (in my case, 13 years!) you can have some ups and downs but this week was definitely more down than up. Still, thankfully a quieter week on the home front meant I could recharge my batteries.

Monday we had Maddie’s final post-op check up at the vets so she’s all back to normal now and seems to have even more energy now than she did before if that’s even possible. I can’t say the same for me and my day was very much sponsored by Cafe Nero…

Tuesday was a busy evening of adding new stock to the website, it’s times like this I wish had more than one pair of hands but how lovely are these Babushka rompers?!

And then Wednesday was the most exciting day, after 3 months of waiting our plantation shutters finally arrived to be fitted. Because with all of these projects we book stuff in and then save to pay for it, it can literally be months between the original appointment and when the work is actually done. Thankfully it’s always worth the wait and the front of the house is now ready for winter. Still so much to do to add kerb appeal but this was our last big home project for the year and we’re so pleased with the end result.

Thursday was my normal work from home day and what a rainy day it was, Maddie and I hibernated and in my lunchbreak I made this apple and blackberry crumble using blackberries from the garden and a Deliciously Ella recipe. Unfortunately there aren’t any during or post photos but here it is ready to go in the oven. Absolutely delicious and as the crumble is more granola style than traditional crumble topping we’ve been eating it for breakfast with yoghurt.

I also found out that Barking Rad have picked me as one of their blogging reviewers for their monthly pooch subscription boxes which I’m thrilled about so Maddie will get her own little starring part of the blog, watch this space!

Friday was the straw that broke the camel’s back at work and thankfully Pete was at home when I got back. He cheered me up by buying us epically fatty pizza and we crashed out for a night on the sofa.

fatty pizzaSaturday – what a scorcher! We’ve realised it’s not long until our holiday so better late than never and feeling guilty about the night before’s pizza, we got up early and took the dog for a run. Popping into town for a bit of shopping I picked up these pretty carnations – these flowers need some love, personally I think carnations are great.

I managed to salvage probably the last blackberry harvest and plan to make some muffins with them and then tackled this thing in the garden. Apparently it’s a pampas grass but it grows like a million feet every second. Not only did it tear me to pieces as I cut it back but I got bitten to pieces by mosquitoes too having one last hurrah and the normal allergic reaction means I’m covered in pink swollen bumps.

Sunday could not have been more different weather-wise in the morning at least and after getting a bit of work done, we headed to the park for the annual Chinbrook Meadows Dog Show & Fun Day. It’s been running for the past 4-5 years and every year gets bigger and bigger, it’s great to see the park being used and loved by so many people. I didn’t enter Maddie into any competitions, too busy enjoying my cider…

I can’t believe that I only started reading your blog recently – I’m not sure I knew you had a blog although I obviously knew about the business. Your photos are gorgeous!
Love the shutters, I now have huge shutter envy! x

Thanks so much Donna for your lovely words! I did start the blog last year but only posted about once every two months, it’s been the past few months where I’ve got properly into it. It’s so nice to write again after all these years, I trained as a journalist after uni but then quit to get a better paying job. I’ve missed writing! X

Your shutters do look beautiful and very smart, or lush as we say in Bristol 🙂 Glad Maddie got the A-OK from the vets – congrats on the Barking Rad gig! On a side note can I ask where your pineapple shoes are from? They’re awesome! x

LOL everyone loves the pineapple shoes. I bought them from Secret Sales but the brand is KEDS so I’m sure good old google will come to the rescue X
