This week my mind has been very firmly focused on our holiday to New York even thought it’s not until December. I go through phases where my feet just want to carry me away and think it’s part of an Aquarian’s nature to need to escape once in a while. So here’s to holidays, seeing the world and opening the mind but until then, last week’s happy moments involved sunshine, quality time with the dog and LOTS of food.
The lady who walks Maddie was off at the start of the week so I got a couple of extra days at home and enjoyed some gorgeously sunny walks up in our local woods, sitting on a log in my “lunchbreak” on Tuesday and listening to nothing but Maddie fussing about and the birds singing. As much as I love city life, it’s also great to feel completely in the middle of nowhere and where we live gives us both, brilliantly.
I love pottering about at home and took the opportunity to do a little bit of sorting, enjoying some proper breakfasts and trying out my new Clement & Claude candle whilst Maddie made herself at home under my desk.
On Tuesday evening I headed into town for an evening with Jimmy Doherty at Food at 52 in Clerkenwell learning all about Jersey Royal potatoes which are currently in season. It was a brilliant evening of great food and meeting new people although I definitely ate too much. Tomorrow’s post will be all about the evening so check back again in the morning.
It was back to work on Wednesday in my favourite ‘Warrior’ sweater from Southwood Stores and another beautifully sunny day when I took a little break. I love London 24/7 but it’s even more beautiful in that incredible sunshine.
With Pilates on Thursday after work and a lovely lunch on Friday overlooking the Thames on Friday with a former office colleague, it felt like the week flew by and the weekend arrived so quickly. We had SkyQ installed on Thursday so have been playing around with our bedroom layout a little bit to make better use of the TV up there and getting used to more new technology. There’s so much that needs doing in our bedroom but I couldn’t help admiring the brilliant light that floods through, it feels like a proper little haven up there. We did a bit of shopping and stopped by our local flooring company to book in some work for one of the spare bedrooms, and grabbed this pretty ‘Kindling’ bucket from Waitrose. I’m a little obsessed with this colour it has to be said…
For dinner we tried out the Shake in a Bag jersey royals I’d brought home from Tuesday’s event with some salmon and an elderflower gin and tonic. I’m not one for ready made from a can but you know, we can all do with being a little classier 😉
I woke up on Sunday to the smell of pancakes, yummy! Pete had taken Maddie for a run and was downstairs whipping up his delicious protein pancakes which he makes the batter for in the Nutribullet. Delicious and full of goodness. Afterwards we paid a little visit to our local garden centre and started talking seriously about the possibility of getting chickens. We have so much garden space and would love some but we’re just a little worried about the foxes which live all along the backs of the gardens here. Watch this space.
We stopped at Lavender House Cafe on our way home (this is where I do my Thursday night Pilates) for drinks and then spent the afternoon with a little bit of gluten-free scone baking and some rest and relaxation. I love these weekends, nothing exciting but so much happiness and peaceful appreciation.
Hope you’ve had a lovely week X
