The buzz word for this week is definitely ‘finally’. The building work on the outside of the house is now finished and the scaffolding finally came down – here’s a before and after! Obviously the windows happened separately so it’s kind of a before and after in stages but from the house we bought back in 2014 to the house we have now, we’re so happy with the transformation. We’re going to do some cosmetic upgrading to the front door and frame until we can find a company to replace the people who were going to make our dream front door before they went bust…watch this space.
Our hallway is finally now also taking shape, we drove up to NW London on Wednesday after work to collect a console table which had been made for us by the same very talented man who made the mirror we have hanging in the hall. Our home will very definitely be a mix of old and new but for the hallway we’re looking at recreating a period feel so are delighted now to have two pieces made using reclaimed wood from 1930’s homes. This little adventure wasn’t without incident however – the table had been requested about a year ago because we were in no rush and Alan was very busy. Pete decided to leave it until after midnight the day before we were due to collect it to query whether it would fit in the car and whether it would be tall enough. As you can see, it looks perfect.
On our way back we hit a drive thru Costa – such a genius idea! I’m constantly complaining that coffee shops don’t stay open late enough in this country and so to be able to pick up my favourite hot chocolate at 10pm was definitely a winning moment.
And our little fur baby family is finally complete! I’d originally wanted two kittens but since Pete isn’t a cat person particularly, we agreed on one. So then my chosen cat names went from Boo and Radley down to Boo and he’s now finally here. An 8 week old ginger Tom who has settled in well and seems very chilled…it remains to be seen how Maddie gets on over the next couple of weeks. She knows there is something new in the house but so far I’ve kept them separate and will introduce them gradually over the coming days. I grew up with cats and dogs so this is thankfully familiar territory but needless to say I’m not going to get much done over the next few weeks.
It’s been so lovely to see the sun after such a wet June and start to July, here’s hoping it stays because I’ve got my eye on this new Pinkster gin which I received a sample of and a little bit of sunbathing in the garden.
It’s been another fun week for blogging adventures, popping to the Secret Linen Store press event on Tuesday at an Artist Residence boutique hotel tucked away in Pimlico, ALL the heart eyes. This was followed by a meeting with one of the PR agencies I work with on Wednesday for a tour of the new sofa.com showroom in Islington followed by lunch at Bills and then finishing it all off with the House of Fraser Christmas preview on Thursday. These Christmas shows are still so crazy to me but it’s good to get a little bit of inspiration even if it’s only for things to go on my Christmas list.
We finished off the week with a super Saturday with my Mum and Stepdad, popping to a village pub for lunch with my brother and his family (our 10 month old niece Florence is so cute!) before a lovely long walk in the countryside with their two dogs and Maddie and then heading off to Kilworth House for an open-air performance of West Side Story. Such a fun but long Saturday, we left them just after 11pm and finally got home just before 3am. You’d never think you could find rush hour in Central London at 2am on a Saturday night but when the tunnels to cross the river close, it’s a living nightmare.
Another packed week, we definitely try to make the most of every day as much as we can! Hope you’ve had a lovely week X
