A New Hydrangea Wreath For Our Front Door

This time last year, we were mid-way through our big external home transformation. The scaffolding was up, the render stripped. Bricks exposed. And then the rain came. Looking back it felt like such a nervy time, wondering if the house would withstand being without its skin as the rain lashed down day after day.

But eventually the sun came out and the builders first re-rendered and then painted the outside of the house, transforming it from ugly neglected duckling into beautiful stylish swan. We’re so happy with the finished result but of course this is me and it felt like we still had a little bit of wow-factor to add.

Social media and Instagram in particular is such a useful platform for finding small businesses and gorgeous inspiration at every turn. I came across The Big Door Wreath Company earlier this year, a fledgling business making stunning faux flower wreaths and promptly snapped up one of the colourful tulip wreaths to set off our Dulux ‘Gallant Grey’ front door.

The rest is history – we had so much love for the picture of the wreath I put on Instagram and business boomed for Alison and her wonderful company. She very kindly sent me another wreath to say thank you and although she never asked me too, I just couldn’t help but share. If its possible I think I love this wreath even more than the hydrangea one with it’s gorgeous white and green petals. When I was little hydrangeas felt very unexciting and were everywhere. Now, they are most definitely one of my favourite plants/flowers. For me the hydrangea is now so eye-catching and I love the range of colours.

We’ve even had comments from people walking past the house about how pretty the hydrangea wreath looks. It really adds something elegant and stylish to our 1930’s home makeover and despite being battered by the elements, it still look as good as new.
