Lately in my Monday catch up posts I’ve been writing about how much I enjoy my weekly Pilates classes and that I’ve also been getting back into running. I don’t run far but half an hour or so most days has been making such a difference to my energy levels.
This week has been a different story with expected and unexpected late nights, work engagements and the heat meaning my mojo has felt well and truly challenged. Whilst I’m not a big sleeper by any means, only averaging 5-6 hours a night at best, I’ve been monitoring this week’s sleep patterns and exercise progress with the help of bedroom company Time4Sleep, as well as trialling “This Works: Deep Sleep Pillow Spray”.
Monday I had to miss my Pilates class which got my week off to a bad start. I could have come home and gone for a run but didn’t feel like it and did a bit of furniture painting instead. In bed by midnight but not asleep until about 12.30am meant I had no energy to get up on Tuesday for running before work. Exercise = none.
After work on Tuesday Pete and I went to a concert at the Royal Festival Hall and as it was a lovely evening I decided to walk from work at London Bridge along the river to the venue. On the way home our train was cancelled so we got back home just after 11.30 and then had to entertain Maddie for a while as well as wrapping DaisychainBaby orders for me before I could even think about bed. Bedtime = 1.30am. Exercise = 40 minute walk.
Wednesday I felt shattered all day long and it was 35 degrees in London. I LOVE the heat but it doesn’t make me want to do much. After spending the evening wrapping orders I settled down to start watching the semi-finals of the women’s World Cup. I did manage to stay up until the end which meant bedtime at 2am. Exercise = none.
By Thursday I was exhausted but was up as usual at 6.30am. We had a long and boozy work lunch with our visiting guest from HQ in America at the Oxo Tower and I felt lethargic and full for the rest of the day. There was no way I was going to run after work even though I’m sure it would have done me the world of good. I simply had nothing left after too many very late nights and did give in with an early night. Bedtime = 11.30pm. Exercise = none.
It’s now Friday and I’m determined to do go for a run after work. It’s amazing how quickly I can get out of the habit of doing something that’s meant to be positive for me, and there’s certainly a horrible cycle of not exercising meaning I don’t sleep well, meaning I don’t have the energy to exercise. The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray has been lovely and refreshing especially in the heat but I’m not sure at the moment how much difference it makes to my quality of sleep so I’ll keep using it and see if that changes.
This week has been such a challenge just trying to find the time but it’s so important. The excuses stop and I’ll be lacing up my running shoes very soon!
