Interiors: Snuggling Up With Cosy Furnishings

As the nights draw in and the days get chillier, my thoughts always turn to how I can make our home more snug and cosy during the winter months. This will be our second winter in our forever home and last year felt very cold indeed – an older house which isn’t insulated properly with draughty doors and windows meant it really was a struggle to keep warm.

Pete laughs at me on a regular basis at home, as I’m sure does anyone who happens to knock on the door to be greeted by me doing my best impression of the Michelin Man, padding round the place in as many layers as I can wear. Remember that episode from Friends where Joey is wearing all of Chandler’s clothes? That’s me! (except, in my own clothes and not Pete’s, with the exception of a hoodie or two…)

This year I’m looking forward to wrapping up in front of our new log burner with my new Mad Men addiction (I know, how late to the party am I? Best to wait until these things finish I always think) and some throws to keep me warm, like these bedspreads and throws from Yorkshire Linen.

I’ve never been one to think about seasonal styling in the home apart from the obvious decorations like Christmas trees and wreaths but there’s something quite lovely about changing furnishings and the inexpensive items in keeping with the seasons. Here are some of my favourite picks incorporating colours and styles which represent autumn and winter for me.

Winter furnishings

  1. Grampian Stag Sherpa Throw/Blanket from Yorkshire Linen, £16.99
  2. Baby It’s Cold Outside Slogan Throw from M&S, £29.50
  3. Etto Grey & Orange Wool Blend Throw from Habitat, £80
  4. Fairisle Pattern Fleece from Next, £20
  5. Knitted Throw in Grey from M&S, £59

I feel quite ready for the cold seasons to do their worst now, all I need is my Man Friday with hot chocolate on tap and it will be perfect. If you want more cosy inspiration, come and follow my cosy board on Pinterest.

This is a collaborative post but all thoughts, words and opinions are my own.

Yes you’ve got to be warm and snug haven’t you? When we were growing up the answer was always to put more clothes on rather than the heating. Enjoy the wood burner I’ve a feeling it won’t be long before you’re using it #homeetc

Oh Steph, I remember so many things my Dad used to say “Close the curtains, it keeps the heat in”, “shut the door, it keeps the heat in” – I never really appreciated it. Now, I really do! X

Aw thanks Louise, it’s definitely going to be an uphill struggle but so far hot water bottles are saving the day!! X

I love numbers 3 and 5 — I’m partial to a chunky grey blanket! I just showed my friend and she said, ‘yes Caro — no surprise that you’ve chose the two most expensive ones on the page’.

Oops. WHY does that always happen???!!! 😉

Thanks so much for linking up with Jess and me for #HomeEtc, we really appreciate it 🙂 xx

Haha yes you are exactly like me, whenever I go round any interiors shop it’s always the most expensive things I end up being drawn to (and I do love a bit of grey!) Xx

Oh I absolutely love the M&S grey throw, it looks so soft too. I do swap things about a bit as the seasons change, for example I put throws and candles away in the summer, then it’s nice to get them back out as the weather changes xx

I love having warm and cosy things around the house at this time of year. The grey blanket from M&S is just gorgeous, looks really warm and chunky! This post just makes me think of snuggling up and watching a film with a hot chocolate 🙂 xx #HomeEtc

Isn’t it just? I do love a bit of grey and am definitely with you on the hibernating front, there has to be some benefit to these darker nights Xx
