Reno Diaries: Stylish Shutters for our home

It’s now September and our last “big” house project for 2015 has been completed. We feel a little bit said that there won’t be any major changes between now and midway through next year now but if there’s one thing we’ve learned this year it’s that time goes by super fast andΒ none of these things come cheaply.

After ordering our plantation shutters back in May from local company Bromley Blinds they were finally fitted in August. Now that it’s autumn it’s lovely to be able to close them at night time, adding an extra layer of both heat and noise insulation.

Bromley Blinds

I’m really committed to using local companies as much as we can for any work we have done on the house and so far we’ve been so lucky with all the choices we’ve made. Bromley Blinds were fantastic from start to finish and their fitters did a fantastic job of fitting shutters to our living room, second and fourth bedrooms. These are the rooms that we had replacement windows fitted to earlier this year and now means that the front of the house is slowly taking shape.

We opted for full-height, hardwood shutters in white with hidden tilt rods, which means that you adjust the shutter slats just by pushing them rather than using an on-show rod. There’s nothing wrong with the rod versions but they just felt a bit flimsy when I saw a demo version.

A few people have asked me if they make the rooms much darker but I think because we have such large bay windows it doesn’t have any impact, plus of course they can be opened in so many different combinations that there just isn’t any other window covering that compares in terms of versatility. We just felt that curtains, blinds or anything else we looked out were either open or closed and as the sun absolutely beams into the living room in the mornings you don’t necessarily want to sit with the curtains closed just to feel comfortable.

The shutters in the little office room are also perfect for my love of spying on the neighbourhood which is what I do when I’m meant to be working from home πŸ˜‰ We’re so pleased with the new look and a couple of our neighbours have even mentioned how much they like the look of them from outside so all in all, a job well done. Roll on 2016 – hopefully finally time for my dream front door!

Stunning. I love these. They look so much better than awful vertical blinds! And so chic! Wow. I need some blonds desperately as everyone can see into our home! I just can’t make up my mind! Thanks for linking up, much appreciated.

They look fantastic and your enthusiasm really shines through your writing. I’ve been thinking about making changes to our windows. We currently have blinds but I’d be looking for something more child friendly. #HomeEtc

These are gorgeous – I love these style of blinds and have often wondered about the light coming in! We don’t have the biggest of windows so they probably wouldn’t work but they’ll always be on my list of things I’d love! #HomeEtc

I have to admit Lisa it felt like a bit of a gamble, especially since all summer we’d been without any coverings on the windows. Thankfully it paid off. We only have a little window in our office room and they’re fine even in there (am I tempting you yet?) πŸ˜‰ X

Aaah this is on my wishlist for our home. We just can’t afford them at the mo.

In our first house we had original shutters and in our second we installed some. This house has got solid shutters on some of the windows but I’d love some louvred shutters on all the downstairs windows. SO much cleaner looking than curtains!! Thanks so much for linking up with us β€” hope to see you again next week! x #HomeEtc

Doesn’t it feel like all home projects are so expensive? I had no idea when we started out! But they’re done now and hopefully will last for a very long time X
