A couple of weeks ago, I was offered the chance to review a beautiful cake from the lovely team behind Baker Days – Personalised Cakes for all occasions. Little did they know just how much they’d come to the right person. I’ve developed a massively sweet tooth over the past decade or so and cake is one of my all time favourite foods.
Baker Days specialise in just about every type of occasion cake you can imagine from birthdays and anniversaries through to themes (One Direction anybody?) and also offer a fantastic range of cupcakes which can be customised/personalised too. Personally I think cake is a must for celebrating any type of occasion – life is far too short not to indulge and these dark January days definitely need cheering up.
I was asked to pick from their Valentine’s Day selection and that it would be sent to me as a “letterbox” cake which does exactly what it says – the perfect size to fit through the letterbox, lasts for up to 14 days and is an ideal size for singles or couples. Tending to favour simplistic designs, I opted for the “My Valentine” print with a chocolate sponge (you can personalise the cake and select different sponge too including gluten and wheat free) and eagerly awaited delivery.
The next day my cake arrived, packaged securely and professionally in a small white box. I took it home (not wanting to run the risk of our 7 month old puppy breaking into it at home I opted to have it delivered to work) and was absolutely delighted when I opened the box to find it packaged further in the most beautiful cake tin which is already being re-purposed.
Opening the tin revealed a white paper tab with instructions on how to remove the cake safely (this may sound unnecessary but the cake is snugly packed inside the tin, without the tab you’d have to tip it upside down to remove) and it really was beautiful. OH and I tucked in and the taste didn’t disappoint me. All too often cake can be very dry or the icing breaks off but despite postage, Baker Days have clearly thought of everything and it was delicious. It lasted a good 4-5 days by the time OH and I got through it and it retained its moisture throughout.
A huge thumbs up from me and with prices starting at just £14.99 for a letterbox cake I’ll definitely be ordering in future for every single special occasion I can think of!
Baker Days have very kindly offered a personalised Valentine’s letterbox cake of your choice to a lucky blog reader. The competition is open until 10pm on Tuesday 3rd February and only to UK residents. To enter, please use the Rafflecopter below.
Thank you to Baker Days who provided the cake for the purpose of the review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
