Free-From: Tasty Little Snacks from Hippeas

Hippeas

For most of my life up until about 5 years I had what can only be described as an insatiable savoury tooth – bread and cheese, crisps, crackers, the works. These days my tastes are definitely sweeter but I’m still always on the hunt for tasty savoury snacks to balance the sugar and now I’m gluten-free I have to be quite mindful of what I do eat. Take centre stage organic chickpea puffs, otherwise known as ‘Hippeas’ (such a great name!)

Here’s a little bit about Hippeas as told by them online:

Organic Chickpea Puffs. That’s us. But, like that humble legume, we’re also a little more than that. We’re on a mission to shake things up. Forget tie-dye t-shirts, dodgy dreadlocks and lava lamps…it’s the spirit of the era that lives on in us. From London to California, join the freedom fighters, snacktivists and chickpea charmers who are changing snacking, one puff at a time.

Available in 4 different flavours, I was sent one bag of each to review and two have disappeared already. I wasn’t entirely sure what to expect but they look a bit like Wotsits only slightly bigger and more substantial and well, they are pretty damn tasty. One of my biggest bugbears when it comes to snacks is finding something that proclaims to be good for you, especially citing low-fat, and then you flip it over to find out it’s piled full of sugar.

Not so with Hippeas however, who have just 91 calories per pack and are high in fibre, a source of protein, gluten-free, vegan, no trans fats AND no msg. Totally winning right? Per serving they have just 4g of fat and 0.6g of sugar and are filling as well so there really isn’t any reason not to try them.

The four flavours are ‘Pepper Power’, ‘In Herbs We Trust’, ‘Far Out Fajita’ and ‘Sweet & Smokin’ and are available via the Hippeas website in boxes of 24 for just £19.95 so they’re great value for money or you can buy them from Planet Organic for £1.20 a bag and I’m sure will appear in a supermarket near you very soon.

Thank you to Hippeas for the opportunity to sample their snacks free of charge. All words, opinions and images are my own unless otherwise stated.
