Tribal Flair – Abigal Ahern For Debenhams

Abigail Ahern for Debenhams

If there’s one thing I love when it comes to interiors, it’s colour. You’d be forgiven for thinking otherwise considering most rooms in our home are currently white but this is a temporary solution whilst we go around either repairing rooms or seeing how the light changes in the seasons and making more permanent decorating decisions from there. In the end, I’m not sure any of our rooms will remain white because I need the flair, the creative energy that different shades release in me.

Three Cheval Apartments

With spring/summer soon to hit most high street shops, it’s time to turn our attention to spring cleaning and little home refreshes. Seeking ideas for something different (my biggest bugbear is when everyone ends up with the same item, it’s so unoriginal!) I made my way to the Abigail Ahern SS17 showcase at luxury apartment complex Cheval Three Quays. In collaboration with Debenhams and their ‘Designers at Debenhams’ theme, Abigail is the current designer in residence and has transformed a one bedroom apartment into an eclectic retreat in the heart of London.

Whilst there is no shortage of luxury apartments in the capital, sometimes the style can be very bland – muted tones and overly minimalist. Imagine walking into a stunning space immediately overlooking the Thames and being met with a navy blue Cobra-shaped lampbase, topped with gold shade? Or the friendliest giraffe face adorning a texturised cushion? As someone who has an orangutan, a cat wearing headphones and a dog wearing a hat and scarf on various cushions, the animal prints were a big hit for me.

Inspired by her love of travel, it’s clear to see where Abigail’s influences come from for this current collection combining cosy soft furnishings featuring vibrant prints with rustic sculptures and more natural earthy materials. The metallic trend remains prominent but with a more muted colourway, burnished rather than bright, but the lamps are an utter winner. I’m not entirely sure Pete appreciated the picture I sent him of this baboon light styled on a bedside table exclaiming that I had to have it but well, it had to be done.

It’s always possible to find an oasis in the middle of the city and Abigail’s styling has done exactly that, bringing something unique and original and oozing luxury at reasonable prices. Finished with oversized botanicals, she proves that it really is an urban jungle out there. Now, about that bedside lamp (Pete may well run screaming for the hills if I bring it into our home but really, I’m a little bit obsessed!)

Wow, this is great. So cool and such great inspiration. I live in Flores Indonesia, and this reminds me of the different villages here. They all have their own unique style of art. Thank you for sharing!
